5G Broadcast

5G Broadcast is a set of standards targeted for distributing television, audio and other media via 5G cellular networks. The major focus lies on mobile use cases.

Within the MERCI project solutions for private 5G networks based on DECT NR+ are developed especially for the event and media industry. Within this project a use case combines production of MPEG-H 3D audio and distribution over network and 5G broadcast. The relevant elements are as follows:

• Wireless audio links via DECT NR+ using the MERCI board
• Professional authoring to enable generation of audio objects including corresponding metadata to be encoded in MPEG-H
• Ditribution over a 5G broadcast transmitter
• Receiption via 5G smartphones and measurement receivers
